The 64 Movements of Kuang Ping Tai Chi Chuan

This page lists the 64 movements of the Kuang Ping (a.k.a. Guang Ping) Yang Tai Chi Long Form. I have documented them here because I just have not been able to find a lot of information on the form's movements elsewhere, and have taken it upon myself to save it for my daily practice.

Warm Ups

You should always warm up before performing any exercise, and Tai chi is no different. Here is a list of recommended exercises: I will provide further documentation and descriptions of these exercises in a later update of this page.

The Movements

The following is a list of the 64 movements which have been broken down into three sections as they were taught to me. Some of the names listed do not match the exact names used by my sifu, however, I believe that they translate to the same thing. I will correct them in future editions of this page as time permits. Each movement, in reality, is a series of movements (to be explained later).

Part 1

  1. Strike palm to ask Buddha
  2. Grasp the Bird's Tail
  3. Single whip
  4. Stork cools its wings
  5. Brush knee and twist
  6. Defect, parry & punch
  7. Step up, apparent closing up
  8. Carry tiger to the mountain (I)
  9. Fist under elbow
  10. Repulse the monkey
  11. Slow palm slanting flying
  12. Raise the right hand, raise the left hand
  13. Flying pull back
  14. Fan through the arm
  15. Green dragon rises from water
  16. Single whip
  17. Wave hands like clouds (I)
  18. Single whip

Part 2

  1. High pat on horse (I)
  2. Separate right foot, separate left foot
  3. Turn, kick with heel
  4. Wind blows lotus leaves
  5. Finger block up with punch
  6. Turn, kick two feet upward
  7. Step in, defect, parry & punch
  8. Retreat, arms beside body
  9. Left foot kicks up and forward
  10. Turn, kick with heel
  11. Step in, defect, parry & punch
  12. Apparent closing up
  13. Carry tiger to the mountain (II)
  14. Chop opponent with fist
  15. Diagonal single whip
  16. Part the wild horse's mane
  17. Diagonal single whip
  18. Fair lady works the shuttle
  19. Step up, grasp the bird's tail

  1. Single whip, moving down
  2. Golden cock stands on one leg
  3. Repulse the monkey

  9. Cannon through the sky
  10. Single whip
  11. Wave hands like clouds (II)
