THE 8th ANNUAL EDITION : "TERRA NOSTRA", The Super Heroes of Our World
The Montreal Black & Blue Festival has become North America's leading dance
event for the HIV/AIDS and the gay-friendly community. The Festival is also
known as the world's largest non-stop gay benefit party festival.
This year's Black & Blue theme, "Terra Nostra", will reflect the
international stature and promotion of the event, including entertainment
components of different parts of the world, in a feeling of unity and
friendship for thousands of gay and gay-friendly participants from all over
coming together to celebrate for a good cause. "Terra Nostra" will also
provide for a special atmosphere, on the eve of the millenium, emphasizing
the importance of nature and life of all shapes and forms on earth. The
sub-theme of the event is "The Super Heroes of Our World".
The Black & Blue is organized by The BBCM Foundation, a volunteer-based
non-profit organization in support of AIDS care and the gay community. Since
1992, donations of more than $500,000 have been distributed by the
Foundation to direct AIDS care and gay community charities.
Now at its 8th annual edition, the event features a week-long program of
benefit events and cultural activities, with more than 50,000 participants
overall. The main event on Sunday, October 11, will take over, for the
second year in a row, the sprawling and people-friendly Montreal Convention
Centre. The official entrance to the site this year will be via the loading
dock of the Convention Centre in the back of the building, in keeping with a
more "underground" theme for the 1998 edition. This mega dance is expected
to attract over 12,000 people. Much more than a "party", the 1998 Black &
Blue will feature world-class artists and DJ's, major special effects and
decor, as well as special entertainment performances throughout the event.
CONFIRMED DJ'S FOR THE MAIN EVENT ARE ROB DAVIS (Sydney Mardi Gras) and
MONTREAL'S MARK ANTHONY (Black & Blue anchor DJ for the third part of the
night). THE MOST POPULAR DJ IN NEW YORK, VICTOR CALDERONE (who remixed
Madonna's "Frozen" hit), HAS JUST BEEN CONFIRMED FOR THE SECOND PART. The
Black & Blue has been applauded by several media organizations as a leading
event in the world, in a class of its own on several levels. In short, the
Black & Blue can be described as a mega interactive experience with the
highest production values, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the
community.
Many corporate and media sponsors have already been confirmed for Black &
Blue this year, including major international publications for the first
time ever, such as Capital Q of Sydney and Amsterdam Gay News, along with
key North American sponsors like Genre, Circuit Noize, LGNY, In Newsweekly
Boston, ICON, and Twink Los Angeles. This will increase visibility and
attendance for the annual event. A major step is also planned for 1999, a
huge celebration for the turn of the millenium ON THE FIELD of the Olympic
Stadium...
Other benefit parties take place from October 7 to 13, 1998, including the
popular "Leather Ball" on Friday October 9 at Club Medley (large venue of
2,500 people) WITH DJ JULIAN MARSH OF NEW YORK AND DJ STEPHANE GRONDIN OF
MONTREAL and the "Military Ball" on Saturday October 10 at Club Metropolis
(large venue of 3,500 people) WITH DJ DAVID KNAPP OF MIAMI AND DJ GILLES JR.
OF MONTREAL. Many socio-cultural activities also take place during the week
(film premiere, AIDS exhibition, sports events, boat cruise and brunches,
etc.).
