GLANTRAETH JUNIORS FOOTBALL CLUB

HISTORY

A junior section of the Glantraeth Football Club was started in Aberffraw one Sunday morning in 2001 by Gareth McGilvary, Ian Lloyd and Francis Jones. On that Sunday morning eight children from the local school turned up for training. Word got around the neighbouring villages of Rhosneigr, Newborough, and other local areas and parents brought their children along to join in the training sessions.

Glantraeth Football Club Chairman, Mr Gari Evans, kindly invited us to make use of their facilities, and from there on the youngsters have flourished. So much so that at one of the training nights we had seventy five children out on the pitch. From its small beginnings the club has grown and is a respected team in the area. We have entered teams in local tournaments where we have enjoyed some success in winning a few trophies.

In 2007 a piece of land in Malltraeth (now named Cae Cob) was made available by Mr Iolo Owen where the club have been able to develop their own ground and expand the number of teams. This coming season there will be under 17s, under 13s, under 11s and under 9s playing in the Anglesey Junior Football League along with coaching for under 7s.
