In the Glantraeth match preview on the net it was said that Lex had picked up of late getting results in their previous three fixtures, whilst Glantraeth on the other hand were looking to book their first points in three outings, it was also suggested that the game would be a close run affair, but exactly the opposite happened as Glantraeth thumped the Wrexham based side who had no answer to a Glantraeth team full of movement and slick passing with goals a plenty.
The statisticians within the club will be looking through the records to check but it could be that this is Glantraeth's best ever result in the Cymru Alliance League, certainly best result for a number of years.
The signs were there as early as the 6th minute when a free kick by Richard Owen went just over the crossbar. It was Richard Owen who opened the scoring for the hosts latching on to a through ball by Warren Gibbs to slot the ball past Jamie Durkin the Lex custodian. Joe Garner then linked with Gary Penlington to shoot narrowly wide from distance. Craig Roberts then saw a header just rise above the crossbar from a Richard. F. Owen cross. Richard Owen then picked up another through ball this time from the industrious Rob Williams to finish well and make it 2-0. Two further chances came following corners as Durkin tipped a Warren Gibbs header onto the crossbar before Kevin Roberts follow up shot was cleared off the line. Roberts then headed into the side-netting following a corner from Chris Evans Glantraeth's recent signing. As the 30 minute mark approached Richard Owen almost made it a personal hat-trick but was agonisingly wide from a Kevin Roberts cross. Penlington for the visitors then conjured up a header which was wide from a good free kick. Two quick fire goals in the final minute of the half effectively killed off any hopes of a LEX revival.
The first was a simple tap in for poacher Kevin Roberts after Richard Owen pulled the ball square across the face of the goal. The second though was a spectacular shot into the top corner of the net from Chris Evans, a great individual effort and the goal of the match.
Within a minute of the restart Kevin Roberts broke through to shoot straight at Jamie Durkin but he could not hold the stinger of a shot and Roberts was on hand to put in the rebound. Three goals in three minutes. Dave Ball virtually a spectator throughout the game was then tested by Ray Jones, before on 55 mins Glantraeth went further ahead a well taken corner by Kevin Roberts found Warren Gibbs who flicked his shot into the net to make it 6-0 Chris Evans then hit a tremendous shot that Durkin palmed away and Craig Roberts broke only to be thwarted by the pitch as the ball bobbled just as he was about to hit the shot. Craig Roberts and then Paul Rowlands so good chances go begging. The 72nd minute so a superb move involving several players finish will Paul Rowlands delivering an inch perfect cross for Craig Roberts to clip over the advancing keeper for 7-0. Paul Whelan then came on and with his first touch of the game was very close to connecting with a Paul Rowlands cross. Craig Roberts then hit the side-netting but Lex were not going to give in and quickly broke following a corner and Joe Garner pulled a goal back for the Wrexham side. Two further goals in the last ten minutes the first following a cross from Paul Rowlands jinking past the last man and supplying Richard F. Owen with a close range tap in before Rowlands himself scored an excellent effort into the top corner to make it a final score of Glantraeth 9 Lex 1.
