As a spectacle the game never stood a chance against the high winds sweeping across the Dee estuary but Glantraeth can consider themselves unlucky to fall behind on the hour mark after having much the better of possession up until then.
They had come close to going ahead after just 3 minutes as home keeper Andy Hughes pulled off a tremendous save as Richard Owen broke clear down the middle. Adapting much better to the conditions and playing with the wind Glan dominated the first period with keeper Dave Ball merely a spectator. Fine play by Paul Rowlands on the left led to a cross that Richard Owen headed over on 12 minutes and a minute later Nigel Barry was only inches away from forcing home a perfectly delivered free kick from Richard F Owen. Paul Rowlands and Emyr Rowlands both went close with efforts that almost deceived the keeper as the ball played tricks in the air.
The visitors began the second half in an equally determined fashion with Emyr Rowlands shooting over then Richard Owen coming close to putting Kevin Roberts clear. Against the run of play Glan went behind on the hour mark as Flint seriously threatened for the first time in the game. Gareth Owen made a great saving tackle on Chris Boulton but the ball was quickly returned into the middle where Shaun Beck nipped in to score. Glan now faced a mountain to try and claw their way back into the game against a near gale force wind and the game was all but over on 76 minutes as a Mike Allsop corner from the right was headed home by Kevin Leech at the far post.
With their tails now up Flint at last began to look like a side riding high in the table but over the ninety minutes Glan had every reason to feel that the result didn’t do justice to their efforts in difficult conditions. It was the first time Glantraeth have failed to score this season.
