It was a good three points for Glantraeth in this fiercely fought Anglesey derby against a Bodedern side that battled throughout.
It was the visitors that came out of the blocks strongest as Gafyn Jones volleyed over in the sixth minute following a cross swung over by Corey Sinnott. Two minutes later Glantraeth came close to taking the lead as a fine pass from Darren Jones left Nigel Barry with a clear run on goal but keeper Gareth Roberts was out quickly to block the shot with Richard Owen unable to take advantage as the ball spun loose.
Chances were being created at both ends with Steve Thomas making a smart save from Bodedern’s Paul Bryant on 19 minutes quickly followed by action at the other end as Kevin Roberts headed just wide after an accurate ball from Paul Rowlands.
Central defender Warren Gibbs stole forward for the home side on 32 minutes and his fine curling effort was only just too high then it needed a fine saving tackle from Darren Jones to prevent Bodedern taking the lead as the action continued in a relentless fashion.
The breakthrough came five minutes before the break as Glantraeth took the lead through Emyr Rowlands. Nigel Barry’s cross was headed against the bar by Kevin Roberts and Rowlands followed up to blast the ball home. With the last kick of the half Glantraeth went two up as a long clearance was headed over the keeper by Kevin Roberts.
The visitors began the second period in a determined mood with Bryant shooting just wide. Glan’s Anthony Hughes set up a chance for Mark Thomas but his shot was well over.
Steve Thomas pulled off a fine save from Sinnott on 61 minutes as Bodedern looked to get back in the game then Mark Owens twice went close within as many minutes as play moved downfield.
With seven minutes remaining Gafyn Jones glancing header from an Adam Roberts free kick found the net to set up a nail-biting finish for the Bodorgan side. It took a clearance off the line by Gareth Owen to prevent an equaliser and secure the three points for Glantraeth.
