Glantraeth were overwhelmed by a rampant Flint side as they went down to their third home defeat in eight days and their heaviest loss at Trefdraeth since first joining the Cymru Alliance back in 1997. With confidence now at rock bottom manager Kev Hughes has a massive task to lift his players for Friday’s visit to Llandudno.
The first half-hour saw constant pressure on the home goal, keeper Gareth OJ Roberts doing well to block an effort from Sean Beck then Stuart Hughes shooting just wide in the opening five minutes. Beck was the main danger up front for the visitors and went close three times before Flint made the breakthrough on 17 minutes as full back Chris Hogg let rip with a tremendous shot from just outside the area that gave OJ Roberts no chance.
On 24 minutes Glantraeth had their first real opportunity as Paul Rowlands found Corey Sinnott in space but his quickly taken shot flew too high and it was the visitors who went closer on 32 minutes as Hogg struck again, this time clipping the crossbar with another powerful effort.
At this stage Glan looked as if they might have weathered the worst but a scrappy goal on the stroke of half-time increased Flint’s lead as a clearance from OJ Roberts struck Sean Beck and flew back into the empty goal.
The home side began the second period in determined fashion with a powerful run from Corey Sinnott causing danger. On 54 minutes Kev Hughes made a triple substitution and six minutes later there was hope for Glantraeth as Paul Rowlands pushed forward and whipped in a shot from 25 yards that found the top corner.
Flint’s reply was instant as only a flying save from OJ Roberts kept out a volley from Sean Beck then Glan’s keeper was called upon to make another good save from Jack Abraham. It got worse on 63 minutes as with the home defence waiting for an offside flag Beck virtually walked the ball into the net to re-open a two goal lead.
Only a great saving tackle from Paul Davies prevented Emyr Rowlands testing the Flint keeper straight from the kick-off but again OJ Roberts came to the rescue on 70 minutes at the opposite end, saving well from Beck.
It was 4-1 on 75 minutes as Beck was first to the ball at the near post as a Paul Davies corner came across and five minutes later Jack Abraham back heeled the ball against a post with Glan now looking a well beaten side.
The Anglesey side’s humiliation was just about complete as Jack Abraham score twice in the last five minutes, first scoring from the spot after Carl Hodgens had been brought down, then, with time almost up, he was left with a simple tap in after a first effort on goal from Hodgens had been well blocked by OJ Roberts.
