This was the second time Phoenix tried using the set match format. Each army won at least once, and each player won at least one game (including a first timer!). Nor did any player win all his games, which shows how well balanced the battles were designed by the competition players before the competition itself.
An absolutely great weekend was had by all, the Phil Rodgers Trophy was awarded to one of Phoenix's own - Bill Wilson - who distinguished himself by managing to overcome a phalanx army with warbands. This is the second year that Phoenix has held a round of the Armati Nationals (and coincidentally the second year in which a Phoenix member has won here - Neil Simpson winning in 2001) and the trial of the new format in 2002 left few cursing the hand of fate. Well, not without reason anyway.
Should you wish to try yourself, we have listed the armies below. The lists were fixed, and conformed to the Advanced Armati lists, but were not necessarily the 'best' amies which could be chosen, rather balance of play was a key determinant, and should you wish to try some of these yourself, we strongly suggest that you strive to keep a balance between the pairs - afterall, you never know which side you will be playing on yourself!
