Tigers 14 - Trojans 6

TIGERS TAME THE TROJANS

With a vastly depleted squad the Glasgow Tigers came out firing and quickly took control of this game in the 1st quarter, surprising the Trojans with some power running from Graeme Clee, who eventually dived in from 4 yards out for the first score of the day. The extra point conversion was just wide but the Glasgow side had a 6-0 lead.

The Tigers defensive line, with Scott Smith and Chris “Skippy” Linton causing the most damage, mauled the Trojans offence all day giving QB Gary McNey precious little time to find his receivers.

At the end of the 2nd quarter the Glasgow side went further ahead with a 51 yard touchdown run from Graeme Clee. The 2 point conversion pass was zipped into the hands of Ryan Hunter by QB William McLauchlan for a 14 – 0 Tigers lead. As the Trojans tried to put some points on the board a McNey pass was intercepted by Robert Campbell, playing his final game in Tigers colours.

The continual downpour made moving the ball difficult in the 3rd quarter and a few passes were dropped by both sides as the ball became slippery. With no further scoring in this period it was
looking bad for the Trojans when Glasgow’s Richard Little recovered a fumble at the start of the final quarter.

The West Coast defence managed to hold out and provide their offence with a chance to preserve their unbeaten season. But the makeshift Glasgow Tigers defence had other plans and managed to stop their opponents until just inside the 2 minute warning when Trojans QB McNey found receiver Murray for a consolation score. The 2 point conversion was stopped by the Tigers Andy Cairns and the score was 14 – 6. A Trojans onside kick failed and the Tigers ran out the clock for a fine victory.

The season ends on a high for the Tigers with 2 wins on the trot and a 4 - 5 -1 record. The Trojans must pick up the pieces for their first playoff match in 2 weeks, and end the regular season with an excellent 9 -1.
