Tigers 6 - Trojans 62

TIGERS WILT IN THE HEAT

Quarter 1 2 3 4 Final
Glasgow 0 0 0 0 6
WCT 14 10 18 20 62

In this second encounter of the season between these two teams at Port Glasgow, it was the West Coast Trojans who easily disposed of a Glasgow team who seemed to lack power and punch in the sweltering conditions.

Glasgow went 3 and out on their first drive, as did the Trojans, but on the next drive the West Coast team ran the ball effectively and a 3yard run from Jordan Falconer opened the scoring.
A 2 point run conversion from Jon Sutherland, fresh from a successful season in Spain made it 8-0.

The Tigers then stalled again in their own half of the field and a poor snap on the punt attempt gave the Trojans Bob Lynch an easy recovery in the endzone for a touchdown.

The Tigers defence stopped the 2 point attempt and the Glasgow team’s offence began to pick up some yards on the ground behind Iain “Sparky” Dick but could not prevent a Jon Sutherland interception to end a good drive.

The West Coast offence stalled as the 2nd quarter rolled on and then the Tigers found themselves having to punt again and kicker Euan Bennet had to kick the ball through his own endzone for a safety to prevent another Trojans touchdown.

On the Trojans ensuing kickoff return Brian McFerrin ran the ball back 50 yards to give his side excellent field position and a short field from which Jordan falconer scored his second touchdown of the day while Jon Sutherland ran in the conversion to lead the Tigers 24 – 0 at the half.

The West Coast Trojans continued with the same intensity as the first half and a Jon Sutherland scamper from 18 yards out made it 30 – 0. He ran the show in this quarter and had further touchdown runs of 14 and 35 yards to make it 42-0.

At the start of the 4th quarter a Tigers fumble gave the Trojans Offence the ball again and Jordan Falconer ran in another short touchdown his 3rd of the day. A further interception from a wayward Tigers pass allowed Jon Sutherland to get his 4th TD from 16yards out. Then QB Martin McLintock passed to WR Pete Svanda for the conversion and a commanding 56 – 0 lead.

The Trojans final score came on a Quarterback sneak from McLintock from 4 yards out and that made it 62- 0, however at this point a quick drive by the Tigers and consecutive passes from QB McLauchlan to Graham Whyte for 25yards and then “Sparky” for 29yards put the Glasgow side in the red zone. From 14 yards out William “Kojak” McLauchlan scrambled his way into the endzone for a tigers consolation score.

The Trojans celebrated the divisional title while the Tigers have to regroup for next weeks game against Dundee at Cambuslang which has a 2.30pm kick off.
