Tigers 20 - Trojans 34

Tigers Come out firing on first game of the season

Quarter 1 2 3 4 Final
Glasgow 8 0 12 0 20
WCT 6 0 14 14 34

In this hard fought game at Port Glasgow, the West Coast Trojans eventually overpowered the
Glasgow Tigers but it was not until late in the 4th quarter that the game was won.
While the Trojans were missing some key players, the Tigers had 7 new players who were tasting BAFL football for the first time.

The Tigers started well and moved the ball 60 yards up field on their first drive behind some good power running from Graeme Clee who finished the drive when he forced his way in from 8yrds out. A McLauchlan pass to McCansh for the conversion and it was 8-0 to the Tigers.

The Trojans came right back and an excellent kick off return gave quarterback McNey a short field from which he duly passed for 17 yards to Svanda. Tigers defensive lineman Willie McMartin then broke up the conversion pass to leave the Trojans trailing the Tigers 8 – 6.

For the rest of the first half both defences stopped any further scoring, with the Tigers relying on running back Graeme Clee ( 22 carries for 170 yards) and the Trojans using a mixture of McNey passes and runs.

At the start of the 3rd quarter a Dave Pasnik kick off return went all the way for an 85 yard touchdown. McNey then connected with Bekier for the conversion pass and a 14 – 8 lead.
The Tigers then marched up the field and Jamie “choo” McCansh ran in a touchdown from
the 2 yard line , but the Trojans Defense held firm and stopped the conversion attempt by McLauchlan , who was injured on the play and took no further part in the game.

The West Coast side then brought in star running back Jordan Falconer, and his added pace
gave their offence a much needed boost when he took a handoff and ran in a score from the 10 yard line. The conversion was stopped and the Trojans lead was 20 – 14.

On the ensuing kick off Tigers returner Graeme Whyte weaved his way for 85 yards and a
tying touchdown. A Clee conversion run was stopped just short of the goal line, and at the end of the third quarter the score was 20 - 20.

Midway through the 4th quarter and two long Falconer runs put the Trojans near the goal line, where McNey rumbled in from 7 yards out. A conversion pass to Pasnik made it 28 – 20 to the Trojans. The Tigers had run out of steam and were unable to move the ball as freely as the first half, and once again had to punt to the Trojans.

McNey completed two passes and then Pasnik completed the scoring with an end around run and a 34 – 20 West Coast victory.
