Lost by 34 runs (Nambour 5/238
Glasshouse 9/204) |
Chasing 234, The
Rangers struck back after losing a wicket in the first over to be
comfortably placed at 4/193 after 40 overs. Then a dramatic collapse saw
the last 5 batsmen falling for 11 runs to be bundled out for 204. The
highlight of the innings a brilliant 99 by opener Matt Del Forno (off 85
balls) denied his century by being caught on the boundary. A great
partnership by Matt and Toby McIver (34) of 105 plus some useful knocks by
debutant Tommy Suhr (20) was not enough. Earlier, Matt Moffett had bowled
well for 2/42 off his 10 overs backed up by Todd English 1/41 and Andrew
Smith 1/34. Dropped catches proved costly in the end but overall a good
encouraging performance by the "Baby" Rangers. |

Won by 5 wickets (Gympie 129
& Glasshouse 5/130)
|
Home side ripped through the top
order to have Gympie reeling at 5/14. Some great bowling by the openers Matt
Moffett (2/3 off 6 overs) & Matt Shaw (2/19 off 10 overs) was backed
up by some good fielding & catching. The "Gold Boys" made a
brief recovery but were all out for 129 in 42 overs. Other wicket-takers
Andrew Smith 1/24 off 10, Ryan Dillon 2/20 off 5 and Murray Elks 1/18 off
5. The home side lost Matt Del Forno for 12 before an 89 run partnership
between Andrew Smith (48 not out) & Murray Elks (43) saw it
within sight of victory. A couple of wickets tumbled before Tony
Levings hit the winning runs |

Tewantin/Noosa |
Won by 71 runs (Glasshouse 6/197 & T/Noosa 126)
|
The Trailer 2000 1st Division lost the
toss and were sent in to bat in their away game at Tewantin/Noosa. Some
good early bowling saw the Rangers struggling at 2/12 after 11 overs. Then
a great 132 run partnership between 16 year old Toby McIver (94) and
Andrew Smith (51) enabled the Rangers to reach 6/197 after their alloted
50 overs. A great recovery. Tommy Suhr also chipped in with 20. The in
form opening partnership of Matt Moffett and Matt Shaw struck early to
have the home side reeling at 6/32 after 13 overs. A mild recovery gave
them a slim chance which was quickly snuffed out by the Rangers
bowling/fielding. 4 great catches by skipper Murray Elks and the
"Thunder" were all out for 126 in the 30th over. Matt
Moffett 4/14 off 6 overs, Matt Shaw 2/24 off 10, Gary Bolton 2/24 and
Murray Elks 2/0 off 4 balls took the bowling honours. Duncan Hale also
bowled well without luck. Backed up by good fielding has seen the boys win
2 out of 3 games thus far.

Maroochydore |
Glasshouse |
Won on 1st innings by Glasshouse
|
1st day : The Trailer 2000 1st won the
toss in their home game against front runners Maroochydore and elected to
send the Swans in to bat. Some early breakthroughs by Matt Shaw and some
good tight bowling and fielding saw Maroochydore struggle to 3/38 after
first 18 overs. This set the trend for the remainder of their innings. The
"Rangers" stuck to the game plan to dismiss the visitors for 177
in 72 overs. Matt Shaw 3/37 off 20 overs, Matt Moffett 1/47 off 18, Duncan
Hale 1/8 off 3,Todd English 1/20 off 10, young Anthony Del Forno (first
game back this year after injury) 1/28 off 10 with Andrew Smith continuing
his status as an genuine all-rounder taking 3/22 of 7. This left the home
side just over an hour to bat. Maroochydore were desparate for a
breakthrough but new opener Matt Fasso 22 and Skipper Murray Elks 24
steered the ship to have the Rangers in a good position at 0-50 (after 17
overs) to end the day’s play. A lot of cricket left in this game but the
boys are in a good position. 2nd Day:
The Trailer 2000 1st resumed
their 2nd day run chase at 0-50. Rain on Thursday/Friday made
conditions suited to bowling and the Maroochydore quicks struck early to
have the Rangers 4/62. A great partnership of 47 by Simon McLachlan (20),
a great knock after two seasons out, and "Man of the Match"
Andrew Smith, saw the home side at 5/109. Some small but valuable
partnerships then crept the Rangers closer to their mark of 178. At 8/145
the pressure was starting to mount as the home side sought their first
victory over Maroochydore in several years. But this year’s Rangers side
is vastly different from sides in recent years showing a great fighting
attitude. A superb 9th wicket stand of 54 between Andrew Smith
and Duncan Hale (22) completed a memorable victory. The only icing on the
cake was to see if Smithy could reach triple figures. Some brilliant
batting after tea saw him fail by just 4 runs as the home side was bundled
out for 228. With just 11 overs to field, the Rangers threw everything at
the shell shocked Swans to have them reeling at 5/61 at the close of play.
Matt Shaw with 4 wickets, finishing with 7 for the match. A truly team
effort with everyone contributing to the victory. This leaves the side
sharing the lead in the competition with Nambour and Maroochydore.
