WHY WRESTLE

WHY WRESTLING

1.          Wrestling is a safe sport. The rules provide that every hold or move, which might injure a participant, is absolutely prohibited and penalized.  Wrestling is strictly categorized by weight and ability. Wrestlers only wrestle kids their own size/weight, which makes it ideal for the small kids as compared to many other sports.

2.          Wrestling has been labeled the most developmental of scholastic sports.

3.          Wrestling tests a child’s skill, strength and endurance, conditioning, and develops character traits such as self-reliance, self respect, perseverance and motivation.

4.          Wrestling has special appeal because there is continuous movement, constant change of positions and new combinations of holds in every move.

5.          The activity conditions the body for a variety of other sports and helps to develop coordination, speed, accuracy and balance while keeping muscles trim and pliable.

6.          Although wrestling is an individual sport it bonds teammates and teaches children to help others improve and enhance their skills.

7.          Competitive wrestling is not mandatory.  If a child chooses to compete in a match or tournament he will be matched according to weight, enabling competitors of any size to compete in their own class.

8.          Once a child chooses to wrestle in some competitive degree the sport will teach the child that success is based on the child’s own dedication and motivation to improve.
