I will write you a few lines to let you know how I got along. I left St. Charles Tuesday night at nine o'clock and got here at nine o'clock Wednesday. We did not get our pay until Monday; we got forty-five dollars. I shall send home thirty dollars as soon as I can get to Mankato. I shall send it by express so as to have it go safely. I shall write to Williams as I send the money. He cannot get my bounty now for the Captain forgot to send in my papers but it will be all right when they get them.
The report is that we leave here for Yellow Medicine in about six weeks. The 6th, 7th, and 9th Minnesota Regiments are going to be there together. I was lucky in getting my furlough when I did for they cannot get any now, but I think the rest of the boys will get a chance to go yet, but they have all got to be back here before the middle of March. I don't know as I have any news to write of any importance and so shall have to close. Give my respects to all of the folks and write as soon as you can.
From your Brother.
