Civli War Letters

Duvall's Bluff, Jan. 1st, 1865.

My Dear Ursula,-

My mind naturally reverts back tonight to the scenes of Last New Year evening. Just about one year ago we joined hands and were united in the bonds of matrimony. (Half a page or so is omitted; no news, just reflections, etc.)

Ö Since we have been apart you have been in my mind during the hours of sleep as well as in my wakeful hours. Yes, Ursula you have been present in my dreams. If you knew the disappointment I frequently feel on receiving a letter and find the postmark is not Whitewater! I think I have enjoyed myself about as well today as any Sabbath lately. The day has been a lovely one and this afternoon I listened to the Chaplain of the 12th Michigan Regt. And afterwards took part in a class meeting composed of intelligent and apparently devout soldiers. It is cheering to meet with some that love and encourage us on in battling with untoward influences surrounding us. Have you heard form Edwin since the recent battles. I understand that Lute Mullins and Lieutenant Case were wounded. I am anxious to hear from the Tenth and Seventh. I suppose that boy is growing finely is he not? I would like to have a picture of him if convenient. Well, Ursula, I hope that you will write soon. I think likely that you may be writing to me tonight. Please give my respects to the folks and believe me as ever
Your affectionate husband
Levi Emery.

Ursula W. Emery.
