Over two and a half years had elapsed since Capt. Pell and Father had written the two letters to Grandmother Emery;
Father had received his discharge form the army for 'wounds received at Bull Run' and had gone back to his farm in Highland Township, Wabasha County; He and Ursula W. Metcalf had been married some months when he was drafted. The following letters from him and Mother cover the second period of Levi Emery's army life.
He was mustered in at Ft. Snelling May 26, 1864 and assigned to Company G, of the Third Minnesota Infantry. Mustered out of service at Duvall's Bluff, September 2, 1865, and discharged at Ft. Snelling, Sept. 16, 1865.
