Economics - Real World/Stock Portfolio Project
Objective: To enhance Economics students with a general perspective as to the nature of life, money, and how to cope with the excess or lack of the latter.
As of now (after 10/12/01) you have merged your Real World Project and your Stock Portfolio Projects into one. For the remainder of this semester, you will only have this project and the Daily Spending Records.
RW – By Friday 11/9/01 you are to have the following information together in a MS Word or Power Point document/folder. All information must be well organized and divided with tabs. Pictures and graphics are to be included along with text for each of the sections. If you are not proficient with the technology means of doing this assignment, do not worry. Some class time will be provided, as after school help is ALWAYS available, for questions, demonstrations, and venting. The need for having this information typed and saved is because the information will be constantly changing every Friday.
Information to be provided in the RW Folder:
For each of the following items provide visuals with documentation. The text need not be essays, but must be in complete sentences.
- Family Life – Wife/Husband, kids, and pets.
- PAYDAY – the first and third Monday of every month. Your check total is your annual income divided by 24 (checks a year). Provide a breakdown of each check (gross = pretax and net = post tax).
- Open a bank account (mock) for savings and you stocks (be specific on this, I want to know how all the money is allocated). You must carry a minimum balance of 5% (of your annual income) in SAVINGS.
- Housing – Uptown or Downtown, apartment or house, buy or rent?
- Transportation – Bus or Buick? Cars for all or Biking to the mall? Insurance quotes for personal vehicles only. If riding the bus, be sure to provide bus schedule and monthly payment plans.
- Health Care – will work help with the bill? This will be dealt with on an individual basis according to Mr. Brown.
- Groceries - $50.00 (for someone over 16) and $30.00 (under 16) a month.
- Clothes - $75-$30 a month per person. Tommy or Tonny
- Free Spending – you cannot just sit on the floors. Furnish that house or apartment. Think of all the things you NEED and if any money is left over, go for what you WANT. At the least, everyone needs: beds, table and chairs, 8-track, etc.
- TAXES – You only have to pay Federal Income tax (17% out of EVERY CHECK). Sales Tax on all retail purchases (7%). You do not create a page for this but it relates to everything you do. DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS OR YOU WILL GO TO JAIL.
Special Circumstances:
- Those with a household income under $25,000.00 qualify for government assisted living. The check arrives on the first Monday of every month.
- Lee and Haskins – due to the tragic loss of your spouse, your family will receive $500.00 a month per child.
- Harris and Daniels – due to the criminal actions of your spouse, your family will receive $200.00 a month per child.
