Summer Drag Boat Race Series Comes To LBL

GOLDEN POND, KY -- The Kentucky Drag Boat Association will again bring its summer race series to Pisgah Bay at the north end of Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.

Events are scheduled for June 10-11, July 15-16 and August 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Time trials are held on Saturday, and races are held Sunday.
The event features blown-alcohol, hydros, jets and flat-bottoms racing at speeds exceeding 150 mph. Spectators are invited to bring lawn chairs or ground blankets to Pisgah Bay and enjoy a day of exciting racing. There is a spectator fee of $5 per person, and children under 12 are free.
"Summer drag boat races are a 20-plus-year tradition at LBL," said Mike Melson, LBL recreation team leader. ñIt adds an exciting, high-speed element to all of the other summer recreation opportunities at LBL." Adds George Onnybecker, of the Kentucky Drag Boat Association, ñThe interest in motor sports of all kinds is on the rise. If someone has never seen anything like this, it's really quite exciting to see boats go side by side at such high speeds."
