Ethical protocol
Why do we have an ethical protocol?
The ethical protocol has been developed to ensure that the CEIEC Diversity Dolls are used in ways that are consistent with what was learnt through the research about how best to discuss complex issues of diversity, discrimination and equity with young children. Specifically, it is intended to ensure that the dolls are used respectfully and appropriately with young children in ways that draw on the research and that are consistent with an anti-bias or anti-discriminatory approach to issues of diversity, discrimination and equity.
What does the ethics protocol involve?
The CEIEC requests that those wishing to purchase a CEIEC Diversity Doll follow the following protocol.
- Complete the Expression of Interest - link here. This will automatically be sent to us once you submit.
- Undertake Anti-Bias Awareness training as part of their Diversity Doll training (where there is limited knowledge of and/or experience of implementing the anti-bias principles with young children).
- Complete a short CEIEC Diversity Doll training programme of 6 hours (on-line). This training includes training to build histories and stories for the dolls relevant to specific contexts.
- Register with the CEIEC the name and persona of the Diversity Doll and contact details of the key person (people) using the doll.
- Participate in a 6 monthly CEIEC Diversity Dolls Teleconference organised by the CEIEC to share stories of the challenges, dilemmas, successes and progress of work with the Diversity Dolls.
- Provide permission for the stories shared during the Teleconference to be shared by the CEIEC via publications, conference and training to further understandings about how best to work with young children on issues of diversity, discrimination and equity.
