Glenn with his three-year-old granddaughter Eila. The two girls are almost exactly the same age. They are sitting at the big table in Glenn and Sue's dining room. Behind them is a long connecting room, with a bay window over on one side made up of French doors, that has been turned into a sort of family room.

You can see more of the dining room here, with a china cabinet over on the right, and right beside it, a little desk that Glenn used as a small child in Louisville. The family room with its fireplace is behind him.

Steve and Louise Cox's annual Backyard Bash at their home in Fairmount, Indiana, in the summer of 2004. The musicians are singing a hot gospel tune to entertain the crowd. All four of them are pastors, of different denominations.

Glenn on the far right (who has borrowed Steve's new electric guitar) is a United Methodist. Pam at the mike (in the center) is a Free Methodist. Sister Neese with the black guitar (standing in back of the others) has her own little church in Marion, Indiana -- a wonderful, spirit-filled place -- and Steve Cox (on the far left with the acoustic guitar) is also a pastor there. As Sister Neese says at every service, "Let God be God. And let God's people be God's people."

Kentucky Music Week in Bardstown, Kentucky, in the summer of 2004. Glenn is sitting in back, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, playing his twelve-string guitar.

It is a week of folk music and traditional music of all sorts. In particular, there are a lot of Irish jigs and Appalachian mountain fiddle tunes. People perform (and take lessons on) a variety of instruments, including hammered dulcimer, Appalachian dulcimer, autoharp, banjo, fiddle, Irish harp, and Native American flute. Glenn's wife Sue was there with her autoharp.

The next summer, in 2005, Glenn and Sue bought a trailer and traveled to two music festivals. The trailer is set up here at the Mountain Laurel Music Festival in southeastern Pennsylvania, where the world autoharp championship is decided every year.

On the way back to South Bend, they stopped to visit Gethsemani Abbey, which is near Bardstown. This is the Trappist monastery where Thomas Merton lived and wrote.

Glenn was primarily interested however in trying to find out what he could about the annual weekend spiritual retreats which were held there for many years by Ralph Pfau (the Indianapolis priest who wrote the Golden Books under the name of "Father John Doe"). He was able to talk with an elderly monk who had entered the monastery in 1943 and remembered Father Ralph quite well.

This is Glenn sitting at his computer in his study at the back of the house on Parkovash Avenue, in the summer of 2005. This is where he has written his books over the past fifteen years.
