The Story of

Samantha and The Glen of Enchantment

It began when I was six years old.
It was a rainy Friday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1990, and my mother had brought me to the video rental store.  After browsing the kid's section with a child's mind of indecision, my mother reached up to a shelf that I could not reach without standing on tip-toes and brought down a red covered video with a strange creature on the front.  I remember asking, "What's this?"  And my mother answered, "
The Last Unicorn. It's supposed to be a good movie."  I thought it a strange-looking cover for a video: a white beast with an ivory horn emulating from its forehead, confronting a firey animal that I thought was a demon at the time.  To say the least, I was intrigued.
I was a child that had been raised on Disney,
Carebears, and My Little Pony, so I didn't have much patience for anything else.  As I sat down to watch The Last Unicorn that evening, I remember being absolutely captivated by the story and the animation.  I watched it again and again before my mother had to return it, but I promised myself, unlike other movies I didn't have the patience to sit through, that it wouldn't be the last time I witnessed the unicorn setting out on her quest to find her people.
From that point on, I was hooked.  I dropped my recent obsession of dinosaurs and turned to unicorns, beginning the collection of a lifetime with a little white unicorn with a pin-prick of a horn in my room.  Today, at age 17, eleven years after that fateful evening, I have nearly 1000 individual unicorns in my room, and I'm still going strong.
This website, I hope, is to become a crowning jewel for unicorn lovers everywhere.  It's a collection of bits of knowledge and stories I've gathered throughout my years of life journeying through the world of myth, magic, and reality.  And, of course, let's not forget our mutual devotion to the movie that started it all,
The Last Unicorn.

     Enjoy!

Samantha
