Final
Glenswilly 2-17   v   Naomh Ultan 0-2
SUPERIOR Glenswilly captured their first Under-21 (B) county championship title since 1994 after a comfortable win over Naomh Ultan (Dunkineely) in Ardara on Sunday.
The 'Glen' men were rarely troubled in this one sided encounter. They led by eleven points to no score at the break and two second half goals from Colin Kelly and Gary McFadden put the icing on the cake of yet another memorable win for the club.
Best for the winners were Ciaran Bonner who scored 12 points - six from play, Neil Gallagher and Colin Kelly with Colin McNicholas, Aidan Fisher doing will for Naomh Ultan.
Given that ten of the starting line up in the Glenswilly team are under 21 again next year a lot more is to come from this young team. A unique feature of the team was that it included three sets of brothers-Barry and Michael Canning, Christopher and Gary McFadden and Barry and Ciaran Molloy.
'We're delighted to win the title due to the fact that this team have trained hard all year and it is important for the club to win county titles at this level for the future progression of our club,' team manager Mick Murphy said.
'The players deserve great credit for the honest effort they put into training and also to my two assistants Brendan Walsh and Gary McDaid who put in great work behind the scenes. We were always the better team due to our exceptional workrate and never say die attitude,' he added.
Playing with the wind behind them in the first half Glenswilly opened the scoring after thirty seconds with a fine point from Man of the Match, Ciaran Bonner. Michael Emmett McDaid added the second two minutes later after a good run. Two more points from Bonner on 4th and 5th minutes followed before he was brought down for a penalty

However McDaid hit the bar with and was well cleared by the Naomh Ultan defence before Colin Kelly scored a fine point after good work from Neil Gallagher. Gary McFadden added to the scoring and Bonner added two more points from frees - one after Naomh Ultan's Toirleach McGinley was booked fro fouling. Two more frees from Bonner and one from John B McGinley left the score 0-11 to 0-0 at half time.
With the wind dying slightly at half time Glenswilly came out and started where they left off with a fine score from play by Ciaran Bonner. Then two minutes later a fine individual goal arrived when Colin Kelly almost ran from the half way line from before blasting the ball to the net.
The game was as good as over but to be fair Naomh Ultan never stopped and opened their account with a good score from Dermot Blaine. A few minutes later Naomh Ultan scored again - a free kick from the half way line was taken well by one of their best players Colin McNicholas.
Glenswilly hit back two minutes later two good scores from Ciaran Bonner after good work from Neil Gallagher. Ciaran scored another great individual point 18 minutes into second half.
Then tempers started to fray resulting in two Naomh Ultan players getting their marching orders. Michael Emmet McDaid added a point before another fine goal was scored by Gary McFadden. Colin Kelly wrapped up the scoring with a nice score before the final whistle.
A mention should be given to referee Bernard Devine, his linesmen and umpires who controlled the game well given that nine years has elapsed since Glenswilly last won this competition. There will be big celebration in the Glen over the next few days.
'On behalf of the club I would like to thank Seamus Friel and the Termon club for the use of their training facilities during our Under-21 campaign,' Mick Murphy concluded.
