After extensive research on Sugar Gliders and learning as much as I could about them I decided to have one of my own. I am the proud owner of Baby and Mojo. I adopted Baby from a petshop in Rhode Island on September 1999. Although not hand tamed, I love her dearly! I have learned quite a lot from Baby. I noticed that she seemed a little lonely and decided to find her a partner. In March, 2000, I found a local breeder and bought Mojo...I immediately noticed the difference between them in terms of dealing with humans. Mojo was more accepting of us unlike Baby who was the complete opposite. Withing a few months of having Mojo by Baby's side I notice a change in her. She was more accepting of Jim and I. I believe this happened for several reasons: 1) Patience: This is not the kind of pet that loves you overnight. You really need to work with them. 2) Trust: She needed to trust Jim and I ...that meant holding her and giving her all the love we could. Allowing for her to explore and learn that we are not there to harm her. Also, I believe that once she saw how much Mojo trusted us she was not as resisting of Jim and I. 3) Maintenance: A Healthy Glider is a Happy Glider! This means keeping her cage clean, fresh food, new branches after they have been dunuded of bark, rotating their toys as well as keeing them clean, fresh water every day, excersice and giving them lots and lots of love. Everyday is a new experience with this adorable critters! You can never know too much about Gliders...I know I have so much more to learn about them and I enjoy every minute of it :-) |
