All About Being A Goalie!

Kelly(Me): I played the position of goalie last year for all 3 of westlake high school's waterpolo team.
AKA: Varsity,JV, And Frosh-Soph. Being a goalie is very challenging!

You have the responsibility of having to know all the players names, how they play in games, knowing all the positions and plays.

You always have to be on guard and paying attention.
Goalie has the responsibility of counting down the seconds on the shot clock as well as letting his/her teammates know where the ball is and whether it is live or not.
Since the goalie is the only player who is able to view the whole game he/she should always be looking for a time to tell players where to go and how to get there.

In my opinion goalies have the most strenuous workouts!
Majority of the time we eggbeater non-stop.
We practice eggbeatering while holding weight balls(8lbs.) above our heads and treading back and forth.
We have a lot of "diving drills" in front of the goal.
We have to practice"exploding" out of the water and blocking the ball from making a goal.We also have to do "jumping jacks"(you explode out of the water and touch both hands to the top of the goal post 20-30 times).
We do MANY other drills but the ones I listed are basic routines.
Along with sprinting laps, and passing the ball with fellow teammates.
