Purpose: Said to be one of the best Seasons, S introduces the Other Senshi and as a villain one of their own. Mars was having strange visions or nightmares of the senshi being destroyed and the 'Messiah' mentioned. Then daimons began to crop up under the orders of the mysterious Prof. Tomoe and Kaorinite to extract Heart Crystals. Tomoe was finding the crystals to revive Mistress 9 who lay dormant in his daughter's body, and had been forced into his actions in order to save Hotaru.
Upon receiving a heart crystal from Chibi-Usa, Hotaru becomes Mistress 9 summons Pharoah 90 to seek the Holy Grail and end the world. This Holy Grail is also sought by the Outer Senshi who were finding talismans (three special pure hearts) which would then combine to form the Holy Grail and the Messiah would be discovered. The Messiah would be good or it would be the Messiah of Silence to destroy the world.

Mistress 9 is reawoken but Neptune and Uranus suceed in turning both Hotaru and Tomoe back to normal. As Saturn, Hotaru has power to destroy the world and when she sees the threat of Pharoah 90 she decides to destroy the world in order to save it. Sailor Moon transforms to become Super Sailor Moon and bravely jumps after Saturn to stop her, destroy the Gateway to the Pharoah herself and thus save the world from the Messiah of Silence.
