Velvet Goldmine, which was released in 1998, is my favourite movie. (And if you were wondering, the rest is as follows: Grease, Dead Poets Society, Cabaret and Naked).

Glitter, great music, beautiful boys not afraid of make-up... what more could one ask for?

The movie starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Brian Slade, a fictional glam rocker; Christian Bale as Arthur, a journalist who was a fan of Slade; Toni Collette (YEY!!!) as Mandy Slade and Ewan McGregor who was unforgettable as Curt Wild, a fictional glam-punk rocker loosely based on Iggy Pop and Lou Reed.

Velvet Goldmine was not a success with either the public or the critics. Unbelievable, indulgent, over-the-top and hard to follow are some of the criticisms I've heard, but for me, it's just really enjoyable and watchable. And who needs anything more than that?

It doesn't hurt that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a gorgeous little thing, either. Here's him without a shirt on and looking really pouty.

And some more images from the movie...
