Hugo Speer was born in Yorkshire, England and was trained at the Arts Educational School. Since then he has appeared in episodes of various British television series including The Bill, Heartbeat, Sharman, Thieftakers and Men Behaving Badly. He made his feature film debut in 1993's Bhaji on the Beach, where he had a bit part and was on the screen for all of about two minutes. He then was cast as the womanizing Dr. Aidan Pettit on the scottish television series McCallum opposite John Hannah. In 1996, he was in the feature film, Mainline Run.

But certainly his break out role came in 1997, in the fantastic comedy, the brilliant, Full Monty. We all know him now as Guy the exhibtionest, who's most impressive feature was, well...below the belt. Hugo says "If people are only going to remember you for one thing about you, thats not one I'd mind".

In 1998, Hugo finished shooting the romantic comedy Swing. In his first leading man role, Hugo plays ex-con Martin, who dreams of starting a big band and bringing the swing scene back to Liverpool, all the while winning back his true love, Joan played by pop singer Lisa Stansfield.

In 2000, Hugo shot the popular mini-series Hearts and Bones, also starring Amanda Holden, Dervla Kirwan and Damian Lewis. He also shot the Australian mini-series Do or Die and played Mark the "other man" in the French film, Barnie et ses petites contrariétés.

This year, Hugo has just finished wrapping up the second season of Hearts and Bones .
