~*Ian as Liam Taylor*~ |
In May of this year, Ian starred in one of the many drama's the BBC created surrounding murders and the solutions to them. Ian played a PC called Liam Taylor, and was featured with two friends called David and Jack. It appears that they are concerned about the welfare of a young girl who had recently gone missing from the area, under the suspision of sexual reasons. This irrated the three men who seem to be totally against paedophiles. They go to a near by house and make chaos to coax the owner outside. He eventually comes out and seems particulary confused, and even more so when the three men enter his house without an invite. He tried to keep calm but when the men tie him up he starts to become concerned. Ian, David and Jack start interogating him and accusing him of snatching this girl, Lucy, for sexual proposes. The man maintains he isn't and the men, in particular David, become increasing frustrated. Under the pressure, the man tells them that he definitely isn't the man and David, furious, smacks him in the face. The man crashes to the ground and in the process smashs his head open. He bleeds and the men realise he is dead. Shocked, David starts blaming himself and panicking about the implications of the event. Jack isn't bothered and just claims he deserved it while Liam tries frantically to clear up the mess. Working in the force meant Liam knows the ins and outs of foresic science and is quick to clear the impeeding mess. They drag the dead man upstairs and cover the death but pretending he fell out of the bath. Liam tells them to make sure everything is immaculate as foresics will find it if its not void of blood. The men go back to their respective homes. Next we see Liam coming out of the shower and dressing into his Police uniform. He goes to work and while there, he goes out on call to the murder, which turns out to be the one he commited. For the forst time he encounters his boss DCI Duggan (played by Tim Healy) who takes note of Liam's interest in the case and appoints him to help him with the murder. After the on call, the police officers return to the station and Liam and a few of his colleagues are discussing the murder. Liam explains why he was killed and that because he was a paedophile, there would be many more people after him. His colleagues ask why he thinks he is a paedophile and Liam tells them that his name was mentioned in a newspaper, Mr Henderson. His colleagues laugh and tell him he should keep up with the news as the paper made a retractment apologising and that they got the name wrong. Liam realises they targetted the wrong man and is promptly sick in the toilets. He meets up with David and Jack and explains what happened, and how the man they killed was the wrong one. David, who actually packed the punch is visably upset and says he has to go to the Police. The other two are livid and tell him that they have no resposibility what-so-ever. But they know that if David goes to the Police, they will be dragged down with him. Jack and Liam meet up together and plot against their friend. They hatch a plan in case of the worse. Liam goes into work the next day thinking that the enquiry over Mr Henderson will be dropped. However DCI Duggan explains that the death is now classified as murder because the forensics have discovered more evidence against normal death. David is becoming more and mroe distressed at his involvement in the death of Mr Henderson and tells the other two that is is going to the Police. Jack and Liam tell him to meet him and they will sort it out. Liam tells him that if he was to write a confession, the Police would be less harsh on him and obilviously, he agrees. He spends the next hour writing the confession while Liam and Jack are obviously plotting something. When he admits he is finished, Jack goes behind him with a paraplegic chemical and puts him in a state of unconsciousness. They put him in the car and throw him off a bridge into the water, with the confession in his pocket. Jack and Liam then get rid of their clothes but while Jack is lighting the fire to burn the evidence, Liam picks up the spade and batters him to death. Liam goes into work the next morning and finds the news that they have recovered someone from the river which has confessed to the murder of Mr Henderson. DCI Duggan tells him to get in the car and when he turns left at the junction, he asks where Liam is going. He replies that this is the way to the mortray, and Duggan laughs and tells him not to be so presumpitous. David isn't dead after all, a tramp fished him out of the river and apart from hypothemia, he is going to be okay. David is now free to tell all. The last scene is of Liam looking rather worse for wear! Ian on Murder in Mind - "We did all this aggressive stuff and it was very intense. What happens in Murder in Mind this week draws on events that have happened in real life - and that makes you think." Ironically, the programme was screened nearly a year after Sarah Payne dispeared, and was found sexually abused, and more sadly, dead. It relates, in the way of paedophiles, in context. Although Ian would never become a vigilante himself, he has had a share of crime on his hands before. Thieves stole his mini when he was eighteen. "I got my Mini stolen. I was so angry; I spent endless nights roaming the streets looking for it. I eventually found it and demanded to be given the keys back. The guy who nicked the car handed them over - I was the last person he expected to see! I don't know if I'd do it again though. At the time I just didn't think beyond my anger - which is kind of what happens to Liam in Murder in Mind. He sets out to do good, but it all goes horribly wrong. He is put in a strange position because he is a copper and is assigned to investigate the crime he commited. There are lots of twists in the tale." The drama was shot during Ian's three week break from Casualty. "It's so hard to fit other stuff into our relatively short break, so I was thrilled to do this. I've never filmed anything that intense before." |
