Internet Basics

What is the Internet?
The Internet is a network of computers connected together worldwide to bring information to your computer. They are are connected through telephone wires, cable, and satellite systems. Because of the Internet, it doesn't matter where you live to get the information. When you go online, you are connected to the world and all its information.

What is a website?

What is a web page?
A web page are the separate pages that make up a website.  This page you are reading right now is an example of a web page.  All the other pages together that Mr. Mendoza made at his website.

What is a link?

Assignment one:

A link will take you to another place on the Internet.  Sometimes it will just take you to another part of the same website or take you altogether to a new website built by someone else.  Let's practice using the link.  A link will usually have a line under the words like this, click here.  Notice that if you place the cursor over the underlined portion, a little hand appears.  That shows you a link is there.  Did you notice that after you came back to this page, the underlined words were no longer blue?  that means, you have already visited that link.

Let's practice getting back to this web page if you do not have a link that brings you back.  Click here on this link.

Good job!  You made it back!

Here are some things to help you:

• Just because you saw it on the Internet, it does not mean it is true.
• Internet sites may be here today but gone tomorrow.
• Have fun, explore and bring the world to you.
