Sea Princess Cruise: The Mexican Riviera

Last month I took a 7-day cruise on the Sea Princess to the Mexican Rivera. This was my first cruise in a wheelchair and I was very nervous. I rented a power chair from ScootAround 1-888-441-7575. It was $140, plus $100 pickup and delivery. I don't recommend a push chair because this ship is almost 900 ' long. 

You can take some off-ship tours at PuertoVallarta and Mazatlan, but at Cabo, they use a tender. The handicapped cabins are very large and the bathrooms are easy-to-use. You can have breakfast delivered to your stateroom. All facilities are accessible,
including restaurants, decks (14), casino, movies, and shows. I was treated very nice by the other passengers and crew. Getting on and off the ship was easy.

The total cast was about $600 each, plus travel insurance and the shuttle between the ship and airport. This includes all you can eat. At the airport, Southwest Airlines pushed me in their chair from car to plane in LA and San Jose. I worked through a great travel agent, who specializes in handicapped facilities: Steve Osgood - 1-800-801-9002. From what I have heard, all of the Princess ships are great for the handicapped. They have three new ships, including the Star Princess with 18 decks! I recommend cruising for everyone! They told me that Caribbean cruises will be very cheap in 2002. Check out their web site.
