CLIMATE CHANGE INTERGOVERNMENTAL PANEL REPORT FEBRUARY 2001 |
In February 2001 The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a report for the UN. 3000 scientists studied Climate Change over a three year period and came up with some stark findings on the severe consequences of Global Warming. I present to you the following findings, for your perusal, in no particular order. They are a very brief summary of the "highlights" as the Report is immense. Dwindling Water Supply The Middle East could face Wars as tensions rise due to the water supply drying up. Australian Agriculture could suffer as droughts become more common. Soil Quality in Southern Europe is likely to worsen and Tropical Diseases such as malaria could reach the North of the continent as temperatures rise. The World's Wildlife will suffer as habitats vanish. Polar Bears and Penguins face a threat from the Ice Caps melting. Countless species of Birds, Fish and Plant life could be in danger as low lying Caribbean Islands sink below rising sea levels. Mangroves that protect river and sea banks in Bangladesh could be swamped. In the single most comprehensive study yet on Global Warming, the UN's Intergovernmental Panel will issue a set of guidelines aimed at reducing Gas Emissions next month and has already warned all Governments to expect more Extreme Events like flooding and storms and, in a statement from an IPCC spokesman, said that countries should "get serious" about the problems highlighted in the Report. NOTE This is not a readers submission but I felt that as I was simply passing on information from an independent source that this was the most appropriate section for publishing it. |
