The learning that "I Love You" virus left us | ||||||||||||||
The number of computers affected in Mexico is considered of more than 50 thousand. Many companies were seen in the necessity of interrupting their network services to avoid that the virus extended. However the impact had been much smaller if the computer users had a higher level of awareness toward the information security. It is evident that similar events are forgotten by the masses, Do they remind the virus Melissa, the back oriffice, the happy holidays, etc. ? all they spreaded using the e-mail thanks to the candor of ourselves. Adopting the following security practices will help us to avoid this type of situations: - NEVER open attached files if you don't know their origin. - Never open files whose names you find outside of your business context. - Always avoid to copy freeware, shareware or software without authorized license. - Make sure keep current the anti virus software (virus definition file). - When you receive a virus report the event to the Technical support group. As you will see these measures are not too difficult, the problem resides in adopting them like inherent part of our work practices. Author: Pedro Jauregui |
