Pfizer received Food and Drug Administration approval of its Zoloft for acute
and long-term treatment of social anxiety disorder last month. Within a day of
that announcement, Wyeth released that its Effexor likewise was approved for the
treatment of social anxiety disorder. These are new indications for the anti-depression
drugs.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Wyeth reported worldwide Effexor sales
of $409.3 million. Sales of Pfizer's Zoloft reached $2.2 billion in full-year
2002.
