Building The Nitro Aggressor CAT 19 by Eric PerezIt's been a while since my last update. Good news is that I've been kind of busy on some new projects. This build article will walk you through the steps needed to build your own fire breathing Nitro Catamaran hull. The plans are based on the Micro Aggressor but with a twist. The hull has been radar clocked at 32MPH with a stock X435 prop and a sport .12 pull start power plant. The hull retains it's composure even in less than ideal water condition. Without further delays let's introduce the subject of this multi-page rant... Perez Boat Concepts Nitro Aggressor CAT 19Specs: The hull is 19" long (minus hardware) and it follows the 2:1 length to width ratio of my previous hull. The weight of the hull is roughly 30 oz. ready to rock-n-roll.
Power plant: The engine is a Force .12 Red-Head, the pictures show the engine converted to water cooling -but the final design runs with the stock cast aluminum head with 3 cooling fins removed. I'm sure that one of those trick looking low-profile touring sedan cooling heads would make the boat look even better. The power plant has been ported (Read the article at http:\\www.nitrorc.com ) Radio: The radio is comprised of JR and Hi-Tech components. The receiver is a lightweight water-proofed unit that comes stock with the JRX-2 computer radio. The throttle is handled by a TS 81 Mini servo, while the rudder is actuated by a ball bearing HS225 BB micro servo. (5) 700 mAh AAA Nimh Rayovak cells power the system. Hardware: The hardware the next generation hydro model from Fuller Fast Electric. It's lightweight and a perfect match for this type of hull. The .125 cable with 3/16 step down to 1/8 shaft is also from Fuller's. The prop is an Octura X435. Performance: The hull has been radar clocked at 32MPH in less than ideal water conditions. With a better setup and a better matched tuned-pipe/engine/prop there is no reason to see speeds in the mid 40's from this hull.
Construction of the hull is almost identical to the Micro Aggressor hull. The main difference was the radio box and the center hull sections which have been beefed up to withstand the riggers of Nitro racing. Competing in a .12 size hydro class is quite possible, but I found that the size of the hull makes it quite challenging to keep an eye on it as you are rounding buoy #3 and making your way to the straight-a-way. The boat is too small to be fun at such a long distance. For that reason the hull is more at home on smaller bodies of water or while running closer to shore.
