The Highland Tavern
"Gloucester City's Best Kept Secret"

The Highland Tavern, bought and owned by Frank & Karen Coyle on December 19th, 2002, is another of the most historic pubs in Gloucester City. Opened during prohibition, the Highland was originally a speakeasy and did not become a legal tavern until 1933. To this day, the Highland keeps the likeness of a single house in a quiet residential neighborhood, the only of its kind in the city. The Highland Tavern was first a farm house and also the first house built in that section of Gloucester City. The original front of the house is now the back and the back is now the front. The building used to have a Crescent Boulevard or Route 130 address until the Walt Whitman Bridge was built in the mid-1950s forcing the Highland to pull a U-turn onto Orlando Ave.

The Highland Tavern is a friendly and comfortable place to visit with everyday specials. They have parties for every standard holiday, as well as those that are not so familiar, including Cinco de Mayo, Mardi Gras, & Chinese New Year. They also have have special festivities including Western Weekend, Spring Carnival, Luah, Oktoberfest, Nascar, and Beach Party Weekend. For information on specials, check out their weekly ad in the Gloucester City News. The Highland Tavern can be reached at highlandtavern@comcast.net or 856-456-1705.
