Joao Gilberto
Joao Gilberto was born in June 1931, in Juazeiro, Brazil. His light, melodic,
samba-based music swept through the world in the 60's, and together with
Jobim, he is considered to be the father of Bossa Nova.
Joao grew up interested in the traditional rythms of Brazilian samba, but
became interested in jazz.
He collaborated with Jobim, and together, brought countless masterpieces
into the world.
It was after he moved to the Unites States, and met a saxophone genius
Stan Gets, that his works became popilar among American audience.
He performed at Carnegie Hall, when Bossa nova was at the height of its
popularity.
Joao has established the foundation of Bossa nova, and various contemporary
Bossa Nova artists followed his steps.
