Marisa Monte
Marisa Monte was born in 1967, Rio de janeiro, Brazil. She began studying
music at the age of 14, and was influenced by Bossa Nova musicians of the
60's and 70's. (A.C.J, Joao Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, etc...)
She has inherited the legacy of Bossa Nova, taking in the elements of jazz
and pops, at the same time.
She has inherited the beautiful voice of Elis Regina. She started playing
the drums at the age of 9. At the age of 18, she moved to Italy to be an
opera singer.
However, she returned to Rio, and started performing Bossa Nova in small
clubs.
With the success of the album, "Rose and Charcoal", she became
one of the most important female singers of the 90's.
She has established her original world by refining Bossa nova with the
knowledge that she has acquired abroad.
