Hyacinthus was a youth with whom Apollo was in love. Apollo often joined Hyacinthus in games of fishing, hunting, and several others. One day, Apollo and Hyacinthus played a game of Quoits, where one person throws a horseshoe on a nail in the ground, then the next person, etc. When it was Apollo's turn, Hyacinthus ran after Apollo's horseshoe but accidentally stood in the way of it, and smashed his skull. Apollo, overcome with grief, tried to stop Hyacinthus' wounds but failed. Hyacinthus' body shape with his head drooping reminded Apollo of a flower. So Apollo decided to make a flower out of Hyacinthus' blood and that is the myth of how we have our Hyacinth flower today.
