Halladay, others sign with Jays
TUE. FEBRUARY 29
Roy Halladay has signed with the Jays, agreeing to a three-year, $3.7 million deal. Halladay was 8-7 with a good 3.92 ERA in his rookie season in '99. Along with Halladay, the Jays also signed Peter Munro, Kevin Witt, and Chris Woodward for the 2000 season.

Fletcher needs surgery
MON. FEBRUARY 28
Catcher Darrin Fletcher will have to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee because of a slight tear in the medial meniscus that was discovered by a physical on Saturday. He will miss around 10-14 days of Spring Training but should be ready to go by the beginning of the regular season.

Jays ink Koch, Cruz
MON. FEBRUARY 21
The Blue Jays have brought back two important elements of their future, re-signing outfielder Jose Cruz Jr and agreeing to terms with star closer Billy Koch. The Jays agreed to a one-year deal with Cruz, worth $395,000 for the upcoming season. Since his first season with the Jays, Cruz has not performed up to expectations and will be challenged for the job this season by Vernon Wells. As for Koch, who set the AL record for saves by a rookie last season with 31, he has been signed to a three-year deal through 2002 which will pay him $3.5 million plus a bonus package.

New logo on Jays caps
FRI. JANUARY 21
The Jays will sport a new logo on their team caps for spring training in the upcoming 2000 season. It is said to feature a big red "T" in the background with a blue jay holding a bat and a ball. I'm not sure how this will look, but we'll have to wait and see.

Bush signs three-year deal
THU. JANUARY 20
The Jays have agreed to terms with second baseman Homer Bush on a three-year, $7.3 million deal. This will most likely keep the tandem of Bush and Tony Batista together for the middle infield in 2000 if Alex Gonzalez is traded. A full-time starter last season, Bush surprised everyone by batting .320, with 5 homers, 55 RBI, and 32 steals.

Jays sign Segui and Frascatore
TUE. JANUARY 18
David Segui and John Frascatore will be back with the Jays for the upcoming season. Segui, who was acquired from the Mariners last season, agreed to a one-year contract worth $4.3 million, and will bring an improvement, whether he plays first base or DH's. Frascatore arrived along with Tony Batista from the Dan Plesac deal with Arizona last season, and was a standout reliever. He got a $1.85 million deal for two years, and was 7-1 in '99 with a 3.41 ERA in 33 relief appearances.

Jays sign Borbon
FRI. JANUARY 7
Left-handed reliever Pedro Borbon, acquired in the blockbuster Shawn Green and Raul Mondesi deal, has agreed to a one-year deal with the team. Last season, Borbon set a career-high with 70 appearances for the Dodgers, and led LA with 15 holds. He limited lefty batters to a .163 average.

Batista signs on for four more years
TUE. JANUARY 4
Tony Batista, who broke through in 1999 with the Jays while playing shortstop, has re-signed with the team. The deal, worth $16 million over four years, includes a $1 million signing bonus and prevents salary arbitration. Batista had 26 homers and 79 RBI for the Jays after being acquired along with reliever John Frascatore in exchange for Dan Plesac. Remaining Jays eligible for arbitration are lefty Pedro Borbon, short stop Homer Bush, and Frascatore.
