WILL OF J. CALVIN DEES

STATE of NORTH CAROLINA-- Anson County

I, J. Calvin Dees, of the aforesaid County and State, being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last will and testament:

Item I. My executor, hereinafter named, shall give my body a decent burial, suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives, and pay all funeral expenses, together with all my just debts, out of the first moneys which may come into his hands belonging to my estate.

Item II. I give and devise to my beloved wife, Fannie (Gathings) Dees, for the term of her natural life, the following described tract of land lying and being in the County of Anson on the south side of Big Jones Creek, Beginning at a black gum on Caple Branch and runs N. 38 E. 22 chs. to a stake, thence East 14 chs. to a stake on Short Branch, thence N. 17 1/2 W. 28 chs. to a stake at Jones Creek, thence up said creek, the various courses thereof, 24 chs. to the mouth of Caple Branch, thence up the various courses of said branch 25.38 chs. to the beginning, containing seventy-seven (77) acres, more or less; it being the same tract of land conveyed to me by J. C. Cox and Wife by deed of January 21, 1903, which deed is recorded in Deed Book 36, Page 460, etc., reference to which is hereby specially made.

Item III. I give and devise to my children, Winnie Elizabeth Dees, Cora Lee Dees, and Callie Blanche Dees, the tract of land described in the foregoing item, subject to the life estate of my said wife as set out in said item, to them and their heirs forever, share and share alike.

Item IV. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Etta Dees, the sum of Five Dollars ($5.00).

Item V. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Lucy Pearly Purvis, the sum of One Dollar ($1.00).(MY GRANDMOTHER - A FINE SOUTHERN LADY)

Item VI. I give and bequeath all the residue of my personal estate to my wife, Fannie Dees, to be hers absolutely.

Item VII. I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend, Marcus L. Ham, my lawful executor to all intents and purposes, to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same.

In witness whereof, I, the said J. Calvin Dees, do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 14th. day of March, 1908.

The foregoing paper writing, purporting to be the last will of the late J. Calvin Dees, of said County and State, in this my propounded for probate in our said Superior Court by Marcus L. Ham, the executor named therein, and the due execution thereof is proven by the oath and examination of Fred J. Coxe and Walter E. Brock,two of the subscribing witnesses thereto, who being severally duly sworn according to law, to depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith, that at the date therein named the said J.Calvin Dees signed his name at the end of said paper writing, and declared the same to be his last will and testament, to the presence of these witnesses, and that thereupon these witnesses signed their names thereto as witnesses, in the presence of the testator, and at his request; and that, at the time of the execution thereof as aforesaid by the testator, and the attestation thereof by these witnesses, the said J. Calvin Dees was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of these witnesses. Therefore let said paper writing be admitted to probate and recorded as the last will and testament of the said J. Calvin Dees, deceased.

Done at office in Wadesboro, this, the 27th. day of June, A.D. 1930, when and where Mrs. Fannie Dees qualified as administrator c.t.a., and letters of administration c.t.a. issued to her.

Know all men by these presents, that we, SHADRACH JOHNS and MARY JOHNS of the county of Washington and State of Florida, and JAMES EDDINGS, ANN EDDINGS, and REBECCA BONE of the District of Chesterfield, and State of South Carolina, have in consequence of ninety dollars to us in hand the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged paid by WILLIAM T. GOODWIN of the District of Chesterfield and State of South Carolina, have granted, bargained, sold, and released, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and release unto the said WILLIAM T. GOODWIN all that parcel or tract of land, containing eight acres, more or less, being a part of a tract of land purchased by MARY BONE deceased of A. P. LaCOSTE deceased together with all and singular the rights, members, hereditaments, and appurtenances, to the said premises belonging or in anywise incident or appertaining; to have and to hold, all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said WILLIAM T. GOODWIN, his heirs and assigns forever; and we do hereby bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, to warrant and forever defend, all and singular the said premises unto the said WILLIAM T. GOODWIN, his heirs and assigns, against ourselves and heirs, and all persons whatsoever lawfully claiming, or to claim the same or any part thereof Witness our hands and seals this the third day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, and in the Ninety-First year of the Soveriengty and Independence of the United States of America.

Estate of William Hurst Will

State of South Carolina

In the Name of God Amen

I, William Hurst of the County of Chesterfield in the State of South Carolina being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my Last Will and testament in manner and form following that 1. Is to say It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. 2. It is my will and desire that all my property both real and personal (except such as is hereafter specified, shall be kept together until my youngest child Louisa shall become twenty one years of age and my wife and children to work my lands as they please 3. my will and desire that all money Bonds notes and accounts and all other choses in action and also all the cotton that I may have at the time of my death shall be divided between my wife Vicy Hurst, and my children John, Sarah, Lottie the wife of Frederick Rivers, Rochelle, Susannah and Louisa 4. It is my will and desire that as soon as my youngest child Louisa becomes twenty one years of age the property specified in the 2nd paragraph shall be divided among my wife and children share and share alike 5. It is my will that if my wife shall marry again she shall forfeit all her claim to my estate 6. It is my will that my wife shall only be allowed a child part that is shall equally with the children 7. I have already given my son Phillip (who is now dead) as much as he was entitled to 8. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of February AD 1883 Hereby revoking all former will by me made.

George R. Boatwright Will

The State of South Carolina}
Chesterfield County}

In the name of God Amen

I, George R. Boatwright of the County and State aforesaid being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

That is to say:

  1. It is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.
  2. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth McBride three hundred and fifty dollars in addition to what I have already given to her and her heirs forever.
  3. I give and bequeath to my daughter Lauretta Boatwright four hundred and fifty dollars in money. One bed and furniture and one cow and calf. I also give, devise and bequeath to my said daughter Lauretta, fifty-two acres of land to be laid off so as to include the Homestead.
  4. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah C. Boatwright all the remainder of my land, and four hundred and fifty dollars in money and one cow and calf or the value of a cow and calf.
  5. I give and bequeath to my grand son Ervin Brock one hundred dollars, in addition to what I have already given him or his mother.
  6. It is my will and desire and I so direct that all the corn, fodder, and stock that I have at my death be sold and the proceeds of such sale be divided among my heirs at law, the child or children of any deceased child to take the share to which their parent would have been entitled to, if living.
  7. The residue of my property, of whatever kind, real and personal I give, bequeath and devise unto my son Drury L. Boatwright to him and his heirs forever.
  8. I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son Drury L. Boatwright Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

Sarah Ann Boatwright Will

Chesterfield County}

I, Sarah Ann Boatwright of said County and State do make this my last will and testament revoking any and all former wills by me made.

  1. I give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Lucinda Tucker all of my property of every kind whatever that I may be seized of and possess at the time of my death, it being my intention that the said Mary Lucinda Tucker shall [have] all the property I have at my death.
