Looking for John MacMahon in Scotland: 1720 - 1760

A number of excerpts from family records form the starting point to look for Archibald McMahan's father and mother in Scotland.  Archibald's father may have been John or James.  His mother was most likely called Jenny by the family in America, but was probably named Jane or Janet.

There is a consensus that Archibald's father was from Scotland, and most of the narratives state that he was married to Jenny Craig in Glasgow in 1740.

He may have sailed from Glasgow to Pennsylvania in 1740, or as late as 1760.  Archibald was born in 1761, but the ages of his siblings are not known.  A Lettie Mahon was married in Pennsylvania in 1761 who may have been Archibald's sister.

Archibald's father may have married Jennie Craig in Pennsylvania, and she may have been from Ireland.

In the narrative, Archibald's father will be called John MacMahon, and his mother Jane Craig, understanding that the first name and spelling of the names may be discovered to be different.  The variations in spelling can result as names of people are written down by others, based on pronunciation.
