BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR CHARACTER:

1. Subscribe to the Mailing List (see links below)! Not only is the list an incredibly useful resource for finding out what's going on in the game, its also a place to just talk about whatever to the other players (remember to put 'OOC' in the subject header in the case off non-game related topics –see Posting Guidelines). Only three subjects are off-limits: politics, religion, and graphic descriptions of sex. Its also a requirement for play; if you're not subscribed, you don't play, period.

2. Become familiar with the material. This basically means read all the background material and house rules and become familiar with them. Much information is provided at Thulsa's site, The Hyborian Age d20 (see below). I didn't need to reinvent the wheel, so read up all the background stuff at his site as well as my own. This avoids having to ask unnecessary questions later. However, if you have a question regarding something you've read, or something you expected to read but can't find, by all means ask

3. Never expect the the GM to change his requirements to fit you, your preferences, or your character. Without meaning to sound harsh, the game belongs to me, not you. If you want to play, try to fit in with the setting, not the other way around. This is what we meant when we said "There are no exceptions" earlier. So, no elves, got it?

4. Be flexible. Do this for no other reason than it puts you in a better position than the guy who refuses to change anything about his character when asked.

5. Be willing to make changes. Yes, I know I just said "Be flexible", but it bears repeating. I understand that sometimes you are submitting a character who you've been running for ten years and that you want the character to be just so... But you need to understand that if the GM says "I need you to change something" and you say "no", you won't be allowed to play.

6. Always remember that the GM reserves the right to demand changes to your character before approval. Don't get irritated. This is not meant to be inconveniencing for you, and no one is saying you have a bad character... it's meant to insure that the universe runs the way its planned. Even in Howard's prescribed universe, I have my own specific ideas on what fits and what doesn't fit.

7. Never be afraid of detail. The more information you can provide about your character, the better. However, when supplying detail, keep in mind the suggestions about being flexible and trying to fit in. Also, try to avoid sending me 12 typewritten pages...detail is great, but balance it with efficiency.
