EQUIPMENT:
Monetary
Units: The game does not use the gold piece as a standard
monetary unit – the standard currency is the silver
shekel. All prices in the PHB and DMG should be translated into
the system below. To convert, 1 DND standard Gold Piece (gp) = 1
Hyboria Campaign standard Shekel (sh):
1 Obals (4g iron)
(ob) 1 Drachma (4g copper) (dr) = 10 Obals 1 Shekel (4g
silver) (sh) = 10 Drachmas 1 Mina (4g gold) (mn) = 100
Shekels 1 Talents (12g gold) (ta) = 60 Minas
Starting
Equipment: Players start with their first level
-equivelant of coins in shekels. Roll the dice per your most
advantageous Class per the PHB. You may buy anything in the PHB
you can afford but you cannot start off with any masterwork
items (assuming you can even afford them). Alchemical items are
available at double the listed price, in shekels. You should,
at start, purchase equipment appropriate for your culture –
exceptions are at the decision of the GM (see Campaign
section for Technology).
You also get, for free the
items listed below. If you don't want the item, you do not get
any coin back for it: - one melee weapon appropriate to
your culture (may be steel, but not masterwork) - either one
missile weapon OR one secondary weapon appropriate to your
culture (may not be masterwork). If you choose a missile
weaopon you either get 20 free rounds of ammunition
for it, or you get 4 of any type of thrown weapon (dagger, axe,
javelin, etc). - one suit of armor appropriate to your
culture (may not be masterwork) - one shield appropriate to
your culture (not masterwork) - one horse, if you have Ride
skill (light war horse for Barbarians, Fighters and Rangers,
light riding horse for anyone else) - one suit of clothes
appropriate to your culture and station - For spellcasters,
any three potions for any 1st level spells you can
cast. You may substitute a healing potion for any single
potion, even if you are an Arcane spell caster. -
For spellcasters, any three scrolls for any 1st level
spells you can cast. You may substitute a 2nd level
scroll for any two 1st level scrolls,. -
Any item that is less than 1 shekel (ie, 1 gp in PHB), in
reasonable quantities.
Once you are done buying all your
equipment, halve the amount of change remaining and that
is your left-over resources.
Half of your
savings may be in coin, the other half should be in trade
goods that you can define (ie, a 12 shekel silver bracelet, a 75
shekel fire agate, a 55 shekel black fox fur, etc)
Alchemical
Items: The cost for Alchemical items is double what is
listed in the PHB/DMG/Dragon Magazine. The availability of
alchemical items is variable, dependingon where you are in the
world and what type of item you are looking for.
Masterwork
Items: The cost for masterwork items in shekels is double
what is listed in the PHB/DMG. The availability of masterwork
items is variable, depending on where you are in the world and
what type of item you are looking for. Masterwork items are are
valued as Damascus or Toledo steel was back in the Dark/Middle
Ages of Earth.
Magic Items: The cost for magic
items in shekels is double what is listed in the DMG. The
availability of magic items for general sale is poor to rare,
depending on where you are in the world and what type of item
you are looking for. In general, it is most likely you will find
a potion or scroll than any other item, and these are rarely, if
ever, simply sold off the street – hedgewizards, remote
witches in the wild and black market dealings are the best
method of obtaining potions and scrolls. Most other items must
be found, crafted or somehow commissioned, though on rare events
one will turn up in a market, unrecognized for it's true
value.
Recharging Staves, Rods and Wands: When
a Stave, Rod or Wand is depleted of charged, they can be
recharged, rather than tossed away and a new one fashioned.
Recharging costs ¼ the XP of making a new one, and ½
the cost in Shekels.
