SKILLS:
House Rules on Skills:
Bonus Skills: All
newly created characters get the following skills for free: -
Profession: 4 ranks in any SINGLE professon related to
background, not your adventuring career (though the two may
be related). - Craft: 4 ranks in any SINGLE
handiwork related to background, not your adventuring career
(though the two may be related).
I expect to see
profession and craft skills that compliment each other and
support the background of the character – if you were
raised a slave or menial, don't take Craft: Weaponsmith and
Profession: Scribe , take Profession: Scullery Maid and Craft:
Baking (for example). These are free skills meant to round out
your background, not necessarily boost up your adventuring
skills – that's what you have skill points for!
Craft
Skills: All Craft skills are considered Class skills,
irregardless of what class you are. Craft skills are related
to the manufacture of a specific item - “tool-making”
is not a Craft, but Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Barrel-making,
Brewing, Rope-making and Glass-blowing are. Appraisal and
Knowledge (specific crafted item) are good support skills.
Intimidation: This
is a class skill for Fighters. PCs may freely choose to use
Strength as the bonus attribute instead of Charisma if they make
a display of brawn and size during an intimidation attempt. (ie,
Conan stands up and flexes his muscles, baring his teeth vs.
Thoth-Amon glaring balefully and whispering about what sort of
influence he has with the King's torturers).
Knowledge
(Planes): This is a class skill for Wizards, Sorcerors
and Clerics, if it is not already one. If you have 5 Ranks or
more of Knowledge (Planes) you gain a +2 synergy bonus to
Knowledge (Astrology).
Knowledge (Astrology): This
is a class skill for Wizards, Sorcerors and Clerics, if it is
not already one.
Languages: All newly created
characters get their homeland's tongue for free, and any one
neighboring tongue for free. They also get bonus languages as
determined by intelligence bonus (if any). In addition, all
languages, irregardless of Class hae a set Skill Point cost, as
listed in the Languages table.
Professional
Skills: All Professional Skills are considered Class
skills, irregardless of what class you are. Professional skills
relate the knowledge of how to conduct yourself in an
appropriate manner for the specified profession – how to
act, contacts in the field, etc. Professions define a type of
service, not the ability to manufacture anything, which is the
provice of the Craft skill. Appraisal, Knowledge, Bluff and
Sense Motive are all good suppor skills, and in some cases,
Craft, as well.
