THE SIN OF SUICIDE

A Christian Perspective

SUICIDE: 1st Degree Murder of Self. The ultimate act of cowardice and selfishness against man and rebellion against God. The loss of almost all things, and the beginning of Worse things...

1. Loss of life - an irreversible sin (Exodus 20:13)

2. Loss of rewards - (1 Corinthians 3:11-15; Hebrews 10:35 & 39)

3. Loss of family, friends, relatives - no benefit to them.

4. Loss of Christian ministry God planned for you - (Ephesians 2:10)

5. Loss of Personal Testimony - (1 Corinthians 3:9)

6. Loss of Gospel Witness - (Acts 1:8)

7. Robbing God of deciding the BEST time to die according to His purpose - (Hebrews 9:27; Ecclesiastes 3:2)

8. Loss of glory and garments - (Revelation 19:7-9; Daniel 12:3)

9. Loss of future responsibility and co-rulership with Christ in the coming kingdom on earth - (Romans 8:17)

10. Physically distinguished as a suicide for all eternity; an eternal shame due to the obvious lack of rewards, garments and glory.

11. You go to heaven and receive eternal life IF you were saved, but that’s all - (1 Corinthians 3:15; 1 Corinthians 5:5; 2 John 8) It is truly the cowards way out.

12. AND IF YOU ARE NOT REALLY SAVED, but only THINK YOU MIGHT BE SAVED, you go to HELL, not heaven! - (1 John 5:13)

13. Hell is eternal depression, suffering, and hopeless separation from God. Plus, everlasting pain beyond what you could ever suffer or bear on earth. (Luke 16:24; Revelation 19:15; 13:10 & 11)

HOW TO COUNSEL SUICIDAL PEOPLE

1. (Ask them to:) “Tell me what you think about your problems.”

2. ALWAYS take them seriously about their sins.

3. NEVER minimize their problems. It’s too mild an approach. Minimizing“turns off” the suicidal person. By saying things like: “It’s not so bad”, or “Things can’t be that bad” will cause them to think you AREN’T taking them seriously. To them their problems ARE serious.

4. (Rather say:) “Yes, you’ve got pretty good reasons for saying your life is a mess!” Agree with their “feelings” state.

5. Allow them to put themselves down and make a negative evaluation of themselves. Why? Because that’s CONVICTION of sin.

6. (Ask:) “How BAD have you been?” (They will think: “Somebody is FINALLY really taking me seriously.”

7. Agree with the suicidal person about the bad things. Say: “Those things are STUPID, ROTTEN!” “Those things are FAILURES!” “You were right about yourself. It’s even WORSE than you said!”

8. TURNING POINT IN COUNSELING: But, you were wrong about one thing. (Say exactly:) “You don’t have to TAKE your life in order to change your life.” (Say exactly:) “Your life DOES need changing, NOT ending! You have never LET Christ change you. There IS hope for even a life as terrible as yours. You don’t have to keep on living a defeated life. Let Jesus change you by cleansing you. Listen carefully. Here is Jesus’ OWN gospel of the Good News.” Then TELL THEM!!!
