ANNIE AND THE ARMIDILLOS:
The first band were some form of jazz-ish. They were nothing too special. I think they did mostly covers. Didn't do anything too thrilling with them, either.
LOUSVILLE SLUGGERS:
After a very long wait (they said they'd be back in january) the louisville sluggers finally graced yet another canberra stage. How they were going to fit seven people on the teeny tiny ruby lounge stage I wasn't quite sure, but the somehow managed. Mind you, it wasn't seven, due to the keyboard player (who, incidentally, I had been looking forward to seeing) no longer being in the band. Still, to fit a drumkit, double bass, horn section, guitarist and vocalist on a stage barely big enough for two drumkits is a feat and a half.
The crowd was rather tiny, but got into the music. How could you not, though? That's what I love about the louisville sluggers - you just can't not move to them.
This band are great to see live. last time i saw them outdoors in the middle of the day to a fairly reasonable crowd of very pissed uni students. This time the setting was completely different, and they still shone.
I'd love to see these guys play at tilleys. If they can make such an impression in two such unsuitable venues, they would be amazing at tilleys.
If you're into highly musical, highly danceable, highly talented music and don't mind a bit of swing to it, as much as it's a cliche, these guys are a must see.
