You know what sucks? Being bored! When I am bored I can always rely on my pal Jay to set me up with some crazy game that he and his brothers have made up. I believe this is the first actual attempt to spread Jay's games to other people. Try Them Out!

Guff

Guff is a very simple game. I believe the name is a variation on "golf", although this game shares very little in common with the game. This game is best played with 3 or more people. Each person declares an area of the yard/driveway/deck that they will defend. Using a ball (soccer ball preferably) the object is for one player to punt/throw the ball into another persons area. Points are awarded when merrited, but in general the breakdown is like this.

Win- you earn a win by returning an opponents volley out of your area. It is not enough, however, to simply catch the ball and kick it back out. Win's are only awarded if the player has displayed some skill, finesse or just does something totally awesome (like banking the ball off the house and into the basketball hoop)

Cool- 3 Wins = 1 cool

Lose- a Lose is given to a player who fails to perform. if their area is not defended fully or they totaly mess up while attempting to earn a Win, that player is awarded a Lose.

Suck- 3 Lose = 1 suck

Out- 3 Sucks = Out. When a player is out that player leaves the game and has officially lost. The other players may decide whether to continue playing.

Another imporant scoring note is that if you have earned 2 wins and then one lose, your total score is equal to 1 win. Think of a Lose as a negative Win, or a Win as a Negative Lose. The winner of the game (assuming that the game comes to the end) is the player with the highest number of cools and wins. Top.

Hockey

I am not too sure as to what the official rules of "hockey" actually are. This game is played exclusively in Jay's basement becuase it is carpeted and has both a wall and an air hockey table to use as a goal. Hockey is pretty much a 2 player game, and any kind of foam or soccer ball can be used. The two player attempt to score points by shooting the ball into their opponents goal. The goals should be about 10 to 15 feet apart, and both players are aloud to move as close to or as far away from their opponents goals as they want.

*Warning* Hockey is a full contact sport. This is not a turn based game where one player takes a shot and then the other has his turn. Both players pretty much fight for the ball and every now and then a gap opens up to allow for a shot to be taken.

Scoring is simple, with 1 goal being worth one point. The winner is the person with the most points or the player who can walk away under their own power at the end of the game. Top.

21

21 is one of my favorite games to play at Jay's. Although this variation on basketball is not entirely original, I think that the way we play it is probably much more exhausting than the standard game of 21.

Scoring: A shot from anywhere in the court is worth 2 points. A free throw (from the foul line) is worth 1 point.

Object: To be the first player to achieve a score of exactly 21. If your score goes from 20 to 22, then you are reset back to 1. To win you must have exactly 21 points.

Game Play: One player, usually the youngest or least likely to win, is chosen to start the game. That player stands at the foul line and attempts to make a shot. Because this shot is a free throw, it is only worth 1 point. After a player makes a succesful free throw, they are given another. If a player makes 3 free throws in a row they are allowed to take the ball back and dribble into play. No player is allowed more than three free throws in a row. After the ball enters play each player attempts to either make a shot (thus earning two points) or prevent a player from making their shot. Like Hockey, 21 gets very intense and is best played with 5 or more people. If a player makes a field goal, that player is allowed to attempt free throws (to the maximum of three in a row). On a missed free throw, the other players will attempt to get the rebound and score.

Extra Fun: If your basketball hoop has adjustable rim height try setting it to its lowest setting. This way every player can dunk and it makes the game much much much more intense.

Note: Excessive force/abuse of height is frowned upon but perfectly legal. Traveling is not a penalty in 21. Top.

Hit-The-Ball-Over-The-House

This game is only challenging if you are playing around a very tall house or a house on a steep hill. It requires enough bats for each person play, plus a minimum of 4 tennis balls. Hit-The-Ball-Over-The-House is not a competitive game as much as it is a form of batting practice. A couple of the participants attempt to hit tennis balls over the house while the other players are on ball retreival duty. The groups switch after a designated amount of time, and much fun is had by all. It would be possible turn this game into a homerun derby type of game, but that has not been attempted to my knowledge. Top.

Graham

Graham aka Busboy aka Geeb aka idiot. Busboy is not a game as much as he is a person. Graham is Jay's younger brother. We have (had) an ongoing game in which we would try to hit graham in the nuts (male reproductive organ) with our fists, feet, basketballs, kooshballs etc. Graham was an unwilling participant in this game, but he was forced to defend himself regardless of his willingness to participate. There was no official score, but I have dispensed many an apology as Graham would lie there, writhing in pain on the ground. Mr. Martin (Jay and Graham's dad) has recently brought it to our attention that we need to "leave graham's nuts alone". I suspect that he is expecting graham to at one point in his life reproduce, and he does not appreciate our attempts to dessacrate grahams balls. Top.
