Toronto Feb 20, 2000.

Hello Goan Music Lovers,

It's been quite a long time since I was here last. In fact it was in the last millenium. That's because I was too busy going down to Goa in Nov 1999 and producing my Konkani album SBY2K1, which I said I would in my last posting. I am a man of my word and so today I am happy to announce that I have finally released my Konkani CD "CLASSIC GOA: HITS OF THE MILLENIUM"  in Toronto, Canada. (My cassette was released in Goa on December  19, 1999).

I am glad it's finally over. I feel so relieved and relaxed now, almost like a new mother delivering a baby. This CD has been produced in Canada, but was recorded in Goa and in Bombay. I wrote all the lyrics for all songs, including one in English and one in Hindi. The music is by Josinho. A lot of hard work went into it and I spent all my 6 weeks of vacation, planning, selecting the artistes, putting it all together and recording the album.

Goa's topmost Konkani superstar, LORNA delivers 4 powerful songs in her still unchanged unique voice in "Sweet fantasy", "Yo Moga Mhojea", "Mogacho Divo" and "Silver Jubilee". Young Chico's brilliant song and my fav "Mandovichem Udok"  together with "Roddum Naka", "Pavoi Sorgar" and "Budhichim Utram" make him the great singer that he is today, in Goa.  Anthony San's duets "Asha ani Gopi" with sweet-voiced Sumeeta and  "Cazar Zat' Re" with an uniquely typical Goan comedienne-singer Platilda and his solo "Goa Tuka Noman" easily make him one of the few best singers of Goa. And the group song, dulpod in Hindi "Goa Ke Raste Pe" brings out nice Hindi-Konkani flavour to the album. My kids especially love Lorna's "Mogacho Divo" because of its intriguing Indian tabla sound fused with the Western music. The 16 track digital recording has rendered this CD with a studio quality digital hi-fi sound, and it is quite  refreshing to hear the live music from Goa which is almost disappearing from the audio album scene of Goa today.

Goan music lovers all over the world can order this CD by emailing to goaraj@idirect.com. The cost of CD is Canadian$15.00+shipping and handling charges.

Please help our almost dying Konkani culture by promoting this album in any way you can in any part of the globe where true Goans (NIZ GOENKARS) live. Let's not just talk about it, let's do it. I have done it. I have to thank everyone for helping me with this venture through promotions from Goanetters like Joel D'Souza of Goanet, Frederic Noronha, Eddie Fernandes and John D'Souza of Goacom, Gaspar Almeida and Uly Menezes of
Goa-World for publicity in their Music section and other Goans like Joe Rebello of Croydon, U.K. and Nick D' Mello of Toronto and especially Aires Rodrigues for promoting this album in Goa.

Let's all unite and help our culture. I hope all Goan associations around the world especially from cities in North America like New York - New Jersey, Washington, San Francisco, Chicago and in Florida,  make it a point to support this effort by a NiZ GOENKAR from Toronto, Canada and order the CDs and sell them there. Please email me if you know of anyone who can help carry some CDs from Toronto to anywhere a Konkani appreciating Goan lives.

I thank you all Goanetters. Please don't take this as a commercial, but we have to spread the word, somehow. Special help is needed regarding info about agents, dealers in the Gulf countries and also in Portugal, Australia, U.S., France, etc.

Thanks again for listening and spreading the word. My task is over, and whether or not I get my money back, I really don't care, but I have to tell this to the world, as no one else will. And now I can have a nice glass of my very own caju fenni and dream!. Now I have no cares in the world! Dev borem korum! Viva!
