Many people have
opinions on the September 11th issue, most of
them very much warped by the media, and I have one as well,
likely none less warped than the other. It is my humble
Canadian opinion that there are not any ‘good guys’ or
‘bad guys’. The Americans are not the heroes and the
terrorists are not the villains. They are all as bad as each
other.
First of all, on September 11th, President
Bush’s first reaction was retaliation. Now, I don’t
disagree with the standpoint, but the retaliation was done
in such a vicious manner that it can only be classified as
"classic American aggression". It seems that
"Mr.
Dubya" was just itching for some reason to make war on
someone or something. The United States has not been
involved in an actual ‘war’ for about ten years and they
felt the need to attack something.
During the start of this war, the "War on Terror", there
were several examples of American military clumsiness. There
was the Red Cross s
tation, which was ‘accidentally’ bombed, pointless
death. The four Canadian soldiers and their companions,
along with the Northern Alliance militiamen; all killed by
"friendly fire". The ‘great hero’ Americans seemed
to be bombing everyone except their enemies. Nice aim "Georgy Boy".
Mr. Powell,
hello. Whatcha got there?
Um...what’s that rocket launcher for?
Where you pointing that?
NO, Point it at the Taliban. Aim it at the TERRORISTS!
NO, DON’T PULL THE TRIGGER!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
BOOM
Granted, not as
many people were killed in these unfortunate ‘accidents’
as in the attacks of 9/11, but does this fact make them any
less terrible? Of course not. It makes no difference whether
10 or 10 000 die; it’s still pointless death, losing
people w
ho have families and friends, people who love them.
And now Bush
wants to attack Iraq just because Saddam Hussein supposedly
has weapons of mass destruction. What Bush doesn’t realize
is that if he attacks Iraq, Saddam will likely set said
weapons of mass destruction on the American people, thus
causing more pointless death and proving my point again,
once for each person who loses their life in this upcoming
second round of Bush’s "War on Everything".
Human society is
trapped in this crazy never-ending cycle of death and
killing, retaliation and war. In the 20th century
alone we saw about 5 examples of this cycle. The cycle is
self-perpetuating; old hatreds escalate until war breaks out
and more pointless death ensues. Hundreds, thousands,
millions die. Everyone hates war, so they say, and yet the
cycle continues, again and again. Fire, death, explosions,
blood; it never ends.
The media
creating an antagonist and protagonist is ridiculous. Bush
and bin Laden are both causing death, and are therefore as
bad as each other. If one must be killed, so must the other.
We cannot allow such people to be in positions of power, no
matter whose side they’re on. The pointless, unnecessary
death must stop; weapons, militaries, soldiers, all must be
abolished. The world must see these people for what they
truly are. We must free ourselves from the very notion of
war.
That’s
just my humble opinion. My humble Canadian opinion. Thank
you for taking the time to read this.
