Dune - DBA StyleIt's probably been done before, but what the hell. I've just seen the film Dune again (not a patch on the book, but well worth watching nonetheless), and the background for the Atreides/Harkonnen conflict has just been published (although whether or not it'll be any good is a different matter). Combine this with the recent DBA tournament and the talk of super armies (what a load of bull, eh! Those who were there will know what I mean), and I feel I could write my own army lists (but perversely for a desert world, no camels). House Atreides
Options: from the film Troopers with Weirding Modules - 2 Bows, or from the book Fremen Allies - 2 Warbands. House Harkonnen
Options: one of the following; Assault Crawlers - 2 Cavalry, Spice Miners - 1 Warwagon and 1 Auxillia, Suicide Troops - 2 Scythed Chariots (I had to get them in somewhere). Desert Fremen
Options: up to two of the following; Atomics - Artillery, Fremen with Weirding Modules - Bows, Desperate Town Fremen - Warbands, Young and Old Fremen - Psiloi (can give support to Clan Warriors) The Emperor, Great Houses and Spice Guild
Options: one of the following; Support Weaponry - 2 Artillery or Sadukar Terror Troops - 2 Psiloi (acted as infiltrators amongst the Spice smugglers). Terrain: Large Sand Dunes (Hills), Rocky Outcrops (Steep Hills), Soft Sand (Rough Going) The next tournament has been mooted as a fantasy style game. The above army lists could be included, but the beauty of DBA is its flexibility. Can you imagine the WW2 Germans (those blitzkreiging panzers would have to be knights) against goblin wolfriders? Shades of the Polish campaign here I feel. Commander Note: Hordes of the Things is a fantasy version of the De Bellis Whatever variety with categories like Flyers, Dragons, and Lurkers. The system is very flexible and used for all sorts from Barsoom Martians to the Angelis Host. Apparently there is also DBF (F for Fantasticus) for larger battles. |
